Despite the flattening effects of globalization, international business demonstrates huge diversity and complexity. About The Author
Leslie P. Willcocks has an international reputation for his work on global management, outsourcing, e-business, information management, IT evaluation, strategic IT and organizational change. He is Professor in Technology Work and Globalization at the Department of Management at London School of Economics and Political Science. He also heads the LSE’s Outsourcing Unit research centre. He holds a doctorate in information systems from the University of Cambridge, and has been for the last 22 years Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Information Technology. He is co-author of 35 books including most recently Advanced Outsourcing (2012) and has published over 200 refereed papers in journals such as Harvard Business Review, Sloan Management Review, California Management Review, MIS Quarterly and MISQ Executive. He has delivered company executive programmes worldwide, is a regular keynote speaker at international practitioner and academic conferences, and has been retained as adviser and expert witness by major corporations and government institutions. Recent and forthcoming books include The New Outsourcing Landscape: From Innovation To Cloud Services (Palgrave, 2012), and Global Outsourcing Discourse: Exploring Modes of IT Governance (Palgrave, 2013). really enjoyed this book

I am very impressed with the way this book brings to life academic theories and concepts and presents them in a very engaging way with numerous examples that reflect many important trends and events world-wide that one could easily relate to. Many books that have strong academic background are written in a very prescriptive ways. However this book by Professor Willcocks is different in a very refreshing way. Professor Willcocks discusses International Business (IB) topics using multiple perspectives, for example, by applying different theoretical lenses and alternative frameworks, and brings to fore the debates surrounding these topics and applicability of some theories and models. In some chapters there is a discussion of the impact of time on the relevance of some theories or views, which I also found very interesting.
Furthermore, what is distinctive about this book, in comparison to all IB books, is that it discusses in detail the topic of Global IS management. Other IB books neglect this though all say in their Introductions that IT developments are a major driver of globalisation!
Last but not least, the topics covered in the book cover issues associated with IB from different levels, such as country-level (e.g., when discussing political, economic and legal environments), organizational level (e.g., when discussing strategy and market entry discussions), and individual level to which discussions of cultural and social challenges, and HR management are applicable. For those in the beginning of their management career this book is a must. And it will make a very useful read for the very experienced ones, and put many personal experiences in the perspective.
